This last unit we will study exams some aspects of Native American history and future. For many Native Americans, history plays a vital role in everyday life, shaping peoples' ideas about themselves and the possibilities for their future. For this reason, we will examine how history relates to future.

Glancy 201 - Glancy has written a novelization of the Trail of Tears. In this text she gives voice to different perspectives and experiences so we can read/experience what the Trail of Tears means/meant to those who were forced from their homes.
Gorman 219 - Gorman gives an oral history of The Long Walk - the removal of the Navajos from their ancestral land to Bosque Redondo where they were held in concentration camps for several years. Many people died on the Long Walk
Apess 666; This text from the 19th century makes an argument that rings true today, and which identifies important issues about being Native American and the discrimination faced by people of color.
Silko 291 to 307 This is a collection of different readings that together convey Silko's ideas about how Native Americans relate to their land and what losing that land can mean.
